Zoom is the best for E-learning

Image
I had tried very hard to make Google Meet reach the features of Zoom but the final straw was that Google Meet was not secure. No way for us to stop others from presenting and thus interrupt the presentation. Lack of Annotation tools is also a major drawback. Too difficult and clumsy to piggyback other software to allow annotations. This the post from someone when discussing security issues with Google Meet. the Chen Den 4/2/20 There is  work-around: it's called Zoom. I use Google apps/suite and a certified Google trainer myself but Meet just isn't nearly as good as Zoom. I recently had a meeting with 70 students and I will never use Meet without the option of turning off screen sharing of participants. Meet is getting close (but not close enough) to zoom with extensions to emulate Zoom (Nod, grid view, etc). In the video above comparing Zoom and Google Meet, the conclusion was that Zoom won by a knockout. Not really. With extensions Google Meet can approach the features of Zoom

Nobody should be left behind but we cannot stop the whole world for them

Image
Ther e are a lot of issues in the implementation of E-learning for students especially for poorer students who have poor access to internet services. In all our circulars, the message that nobody is to be left behind is clearly stated. Unfortunately, it is not clear as to how we implement this directive. My view on this is formed by my experiences when I was studying in my primary school. We have so many issues in those days also but they have never stopped me from excelling in my studies. When I was in primary one in Sandakan, we had to travel from the current Sandakan Marine Police Base to the school at Kampung Berhala Darat, in police trucks, if available, to a distance of 1.9 km, up a few steep hills in those days. A few buses cannot climb that hill a few times. Even my father's borrowed car was not able to climb once or twice. And once or twice, I had to walk back home by myself. What it means was that, we are disadvantaged compared to the students from the village that stay w

How to schedule a Google Meet and invite a group of students

Image
Login to your UMS google account first. calendar.google.com New Google Calendar Entry Just click the nearest place in the calendar that you want the event to occur, and change the time to suit your needs. You can invite guests by typing the label for your required group of student at the Add guests menu. When you save, it will advise you whether you want to send the invitation. In my Calendar, the Add Google Meet menu is available. I used to have the Zoom meet invitation also. I need to install the extension to it first. You can reinvite any time by editing this event in the calendar.

How to extract students' email from Smart V3

Image
We extract their email addresses from their grades. UMS Smart V3 Grade export menu Export as Excel spreadsheet. Delete all columns except First name and Email address. Save as .csv format. Smart V3 First name and Email addresses in .csv format. Export it to Google contacts using our UMS account. contacts.google.com create contacts, create multiple contacts, import contacts Import contacts to Google contacts Select the .csv file with the names and adresses. Google contacts will create a group of contacts with the LABEL imported_contacts and the date. Just rename the LABEL to help you remember and easy for Google Mail to recall. For example 1ks22402. I put 1 so that it is right at the top of the list of labels.

Microphone pinouts

Be careful when buying microphones. Microphones can come with 4 most common types. Below is the 3.5mm JACK plug with TRRS pins. It is not standard. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinfos99qArDKtuMpq4Q2giaIUTju89G2G1B6CwGqyScfuVg1a7NPb9RnTt9b0vPo-jmBNRq-a-l9reEKzDTAuGBQFyeqgcxTqRwNyU5JR3ahDZUSIWHUXeSVsslll2vmv_jLztYo_lsr7-/s1600/4-pin+3.5mm+headset+connector.png Arimic microphone, https://www.lazada.com.my/arimic-dual-headed-lavalier-lapel-clip-on-omnidirectional-condenser-microphone-mic-cable-length-197ft-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-android-smartphone-for-canon-nikon-dslr-camera-i201786169-s248919059.html?spm=a2o4k.myreviewhistory.0.0.298849fbzPp6x4 It even comes with a TRRS to TRS converter for cameras or PC motherboards or sound cards, including US sound cards. Monitor Sudents While Presenting

Image
This is the best video I had seen. It is interesting to learn the third method. It uses only one screen but make your Meet windows larger than the presenting window so that we can observe the chat portion of Meet.

Review of Anbiux 1080p 130degree Webcam

Image
I bought this version of Anbiux 1080p Webcam. Anbiux 1080p Webcam 1 Anbiux webcam taking a picture of an ISO Chart. It shows 850 vertical lines resolution. https://youtu.be/cdwaa3ZsR20 Below is the  Anbiux webcam using default Camera app in Windows 10 2004. Below is the default Lenovo Y50-70 webcam using default Camera app in Windows 10 2004. Not sue what the settings are used in the Camera app but Anbiux is sharper. I cannot make this camera work with Lenovo W520 which I cannot install the Renesas USB3 card. The Microsoft default Renesas driver cannot work with the expresscard. The driver CD cannot install because the existing driver is the later version. However it worked with the usb3 express card in E6420 which does not have a camera. PCs don't have cameras. Anbiux 1080p 130 deg webcam from E6420 I ordered another wide angle Anbiux webcam with a different item number which is cheaper by RM3, and can be bundled with WiFi Cameras, so I ordered another set of cameras. Anbiux also

Drawing on screen using OBS

Image
Free version of Screencastify can only record for 5 minutes. Draw browser extensions only work with browsers, not full screen capture. OBS is a free screen capture with powerful features but it does not have the plugins to allow users to draw on the screen while capturing. But there are methods to draw on the screen using OBS. I have not tried them yet. It does not work on Meet. You need to draw on the Paint app. My solution is just to draw on the applications that run our presentation. If pdf, use Pdfx commenting tools. If Office, use its drawing tools. https://youtu.be/JldTr7Qptt8 https://youtu.be/--TruG3dJlk This one tells you more tricks.
