Zoom Cloud Recording Options

Zoom allows many options of recording but only for cloud recording.

Unfortunately cloud recording is limited to 1GB for a Pro account. Other accounts are not good for individuals because you must purchase a minimum number of 10 hosts.

The Pro account limits on cloud recording.

The file sizes of all options.

If you record it with the speaker, file size is 8 times that of just the shared screen. The shared screen only uses up 227 MB of video.

The gallery view in Zoom uses 1.9 GB, 1280 x 720. OBS uses up 220 MB in 1280 x 720, for 2 hours.

You cannot change the resolution in Zoom but OBS output resolution can be changed.

Conclusion

The shared screen view is safely recorded by Zoom in the cloud. You cannot record it by using the local recording. This is the best way of recording because it uses up 100 MB per hour, but it does not have the speaker video.

Local recording by Zoom uses up 1 GB per hour. No other option except shared screen with speaker view and will need a few hours to convert to a version that is playable in media players.

The gallery view is used for attendance recording purposes. It uses up too much of the cloud recording quota, 500 MB per hour. It is best to record it using OBS which uses up only 100 MB per hour. OBS can give the result in less than an hour.

In the gallery view, there are portions of the recording that is just a black screen. Initially I though OBS has some problems with Zoom windows but actually, the same problem occur in the Zoom cloud recording as well.

OBS need to be setup properly to record the Zoom gallery (grid view) window. The default, which is auto does not work. Fotunately I managed to get it working by experimenting with various options.
